Pre-Session Comfort Guide
This guide is designed to help you create a calm, relaxing space before your session - so you can feel comfortable, and get the most out of your experience.
A very important comfort item on the list is having a place where you can recline, but not lie down completely. For the main part of the session, reclining is the most comfortable position (sitting up straight can get uncomfortable, and laying down flat means you may fall asleep). You can feel free to set up your camera and device for this position before the session, so you can stay comfortable where you are after we have talked and are ready to begin.
You can prop pillows up on a bed or a couch, or use a recliner if you have one. You want to be sure you will be as comfortable as possible during your session, so you can get the most from your experience.
What you will need for your session
Technology
A free or paid Zoom account
A stable internet connection
A device with a camera and microphone
Position your camera so you are visible from the shoulders up
Environment
A calm, comfortable space to sit or recline
A distraction-free, quiet environment
What is highly recommended for your session
Technology
A fully charged or plugged in device (Zoom can drain battery fast)
A wired internet connection to your device (more stable than Wi-Fi)
Headphones or earbuds with a built-in microphone (headphones help you feel more immersed, and a built-in microphone that is closer to you helps me hear you better)
Test your microphone and camera before the session
Silence notifications on your devices
Have a backup device nearby (if Zoom connection drops, or your device runs out of battery)
Environment
A place where you can recline, but not lie completely flat (see above!)
Let others know that you will be in a session and to not disturb you
Ensure children and pets won’t disturb you during the session
Check your lighting - if session is around sunset, have a lamp on (allows me to see you better)
Keep a bottle or glass of water nearby
Have a blanket nearby
Keep a box of tissues nearby (emotions sometimes surface - that’s perfectly natural)
You
Avoid caffeine, sugar or energy drinks before your session (they can make it harder to fully relax)
Use the washroom before your session (if you need to go during the session, I will help you come up enough to use the washroom, and when you come back you may go even deeper into relaxation)
Allow a few minutes before your session to settle, relax and take a few deep breaths.
